About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Software Developer with a strong background in Python to join our team. Your primary role will be to create an execution environment for the AI models developed at Focalise, initially focussed on Search and Rescue operations. The product you develop will need to run efficiently on constrained devices with low power consumption.
As a Software Engineer at Focalise, you will be key to our efforts to develop cutting-edge AI solutions for object detection. The initial ‘AI for Good’ mission you will work on is to assist international search and rescue teams locate missing individuals in complex environments using video, thermal and other data captured live from IoT devices such as drones.

In this role you will:
- Develop a machine learning execution environment for constrained devices.
- Ensure the environment is optimised for low power consumption.
- Collaborate with the AI team to integrate models into the execution environment.
- Develop and optimise machine learning models for object detection using TensorFlow and Darknet frameworks.
- Help optimise ML systems to adapt to customers' needs in challenging environments.

Let’s talk plainly, this is a sales role. Focalise seeks an experienced Customer Acquisition Principal to own and produce the customer acquisition and revenue goals of Focalise. The reason that we have not given this role the title of Sales, is that our cultural intent is to deliver our mission in partnership with our customers. We are not merely selling to them. Instead, we are experts, engaging in discussion, research and discovery, to unearth underserved needs and possibilities. We then collaborate with customers and funding organisations to make the impossible, possible.
While this role will at times involve selling standardised products and services, the primary requirements will be in identifying and shaping new R&D projects within our target sectors.
The Customer Acquisition Principal will be expert at building trusted relationships, in selling point solutions and in the discover and bid stages of solution and consulting sales.
